Thoughts about the project as of today.
1) I still need to access the NTDSE data, and I'm not sure how to do this. Possible ideas:
a) Sifting through existing IEPs for 2009-2010 and comparing to 2008-2009
b) Accessing minutes per week (MPW) over the last 2 years
2) Perhaps it might be good to create a survey on SurveyMonkey.com or something, and send that to administrators in the townships served by NTDSE and NSSED? This may give us an idea of what's services/supports need to exist or be put in place in order to consider placing students in less restrictive environments.
3) Perhaps the survey should also include why administrators or IEP teams consider more restrictive settings?
4) Interview Special Education Director (NSSD#112) Since I work for a pretty big district, I would be interested how many students are placed in NSSED programs and what criteria determines this LRE.
